Forum Question: Even the Wall Street Journal sees the need to find musicians. A recent article in this prominent news publication focuses on bands that can't find a drummer. This week we ask, “How do you find musicians and which ones are the hardest to find?” As always, OnlineRock is interested in your comments related to the world of music and the music industry. From time to time, we'll pose a different question in hopes of hearing your input.

I Use bulletin boards like this on the net. I also go to open mic nights. We used to have a magazine called BAM in the Bay area, but it went out of business.

Hey Matt,
I remember BAM very well! Our band used that to great success to find band members and studios. I think that nowadays forums like this are a great way to do it, but open mike nights are also great for finding other people to play with. Could you let us know of some in your area? It would be very helpful.

I meet some great players at the jams my friend has at his house every week.

Partys can be good too, if they are being thrown by good players.

Yea, Thats how Sheryl Crow got her band for her first album "tuesday night music club" Also I think Paul McCartney met his current (last few years) band that way too.

I think the best way to find musicians is to get out and support your local music scene. Get to know as many local musicians as possible and use these contacts as a network to find suitable players. If you go to see other musicians play you can get a good idea of their abilities and how much stock you can put in their recommendations.
