If you really want some good rec software you should try the n-trac it is a very good program that is very inexpensive they have a free version that you can try before you buy but the full version does not cost very much and it is really a good program to use.

You can also get Pro Tools Free. I haven't used the free version but I do use the Digi 001 with LE and it's great! The free version is limited to 8 tracks but it can be exported to other Pro Tool version.

I've used several different programs, Pro Tools, Cakewalk, and n-Track... I have to say that in my experiences, n-Track has been the easiest to use. The free version has unlimited tracks, but you can only add effects to the first 2 tracks. I think the mixdown is limited, but it doesn't give you any sound drop outs or beeps like some other free software.
