If you don't want to spend a lot of time, I'd suggest a Shure SM57 or SM58... They're pretty good quality and fairly cheap from Musician's Friend...

well, guys, I am already in possession of a SM-58. I am looking for a high quality vocal mic. The SM-58 is a great performance mic. Never let me down... I also have a Behiringer B-1. I think I still need a better mic for recording...

I use an Audio Tecnica AT 4040. It's cost was about $350 and has been working fine for all of my recording needs. I mainly use it for vocals and recordning my acoustic guitar. Granted I'm not a great singer but it captures my voice pretty well.

I think this brings up a bigger question. What defines a good mic? Also, preamps play a big part in the equation. Mine goes directly into my Digi 001 which has OK preamps.

Good Luck

Hey there, check out Mercenary Audio, Royer, MXL, and Blue brand mics for high quality condenser mics that are up to snuff for studio work.
http://www.mercenaryaudio.com/ http://www.royerlabs.com/ http://www.mxlmics.com/ http://www.bluemic.com/

They'll have specs and pics. You can find most of them on the www.musiciansfriend.com website. Go to www.tapeop.com and sign up for a free subscription to what I think is the best recording mag out there. They have dozens of brands of mic makers advertising in it every month.

Hope this helps.
