I'm looking into getting a home recording set up, but am not sure what all the available options are. If anyone could share their set up and the approximate cost of it I'd really appreciate it. I'm open to any platform(computer based pc or mac, all-in-one hard disk...can't think of any others,i'm in over my head here!). My requirements are all audio, I'll need to record a drum kit with the rest of the band but could probably get away with recording guitar, bass and vocals seperate from the drums.
Thanks for taking the time to help me out,
Pez

hi pez
i use a Boss BR-864 8 track mixer. I also play guitar and its got some great effects on it. It has inputs for keyboard midi, foot switch/external pedal, mic. To much on it to mention here. It also connects to pc via usb so you can make wave files and then burn cds. All i can say is im very happy with it, Cost me around 400 pounds, i think thats about 700 us dollars but i think its worth the money.

Thanks, but I think 8 tracks is a little slim for what I'm thinking about doing, maybe the 16 track version of that would suit me better, or maybe there's a less all-in-one unit that would maybe give me more bang for my buck. Any suggestions? I'm pretty sure 16 tracks would fill up quick with 2 or 3 guitars, backup vocals, extra percussion tracks etc., it's just nice to have headroom in the track department. Are you happy with the sound quality in your boss unit?
Thanks,
Pez

Yes i uderstand what your saying here. However this unit has 64 virtual tracks. So say for instance you record 8 tracks you can then mix and bounce all 8 tracks to a virtual track or V TRACK as its called. Then record some more tracks and mix and bounce them also. I use it for song writing and creating instrumentals. Not sure if you live in America but if you do you will be able to buy it cheaper than we can over here in England. Personally i think Roland products are good quality. Checkout the review on the link below.
Also go to my webpage and download the songs ive written. All recorded on Rolands Boss=864

Hope this helps you with your desicions as to what to buy.
