ONE ON ONE: Built to Spill released their first album Ultimate Alternative Wavers in 1993. Since then the band has released five additional studio records, toured extensively throughout the world, and have aquired a devoted fan base. On October 6th, Warner Bros. Records will release Built to Spill's seventh studio album, There Is No Enemy. I had a chance to talk Built to Spill's frontman Doug Martsch about the new record, how the band works in the studio, and the Boise music scene. Read the interview at:

FREE MP3 DOWNLOAD: Shortly after having finished touring with her second album From the Valley to the Stars Sweden-based El Perro Del Mar, known informally as Sarah Assbring, started writing new songs. For some reason all the songs were about love and in particular that of the doomed kind. El Perro Del Mar is set to release her third full-length album Love Is Not Pop (The Control Group) on October 20, 2009. Following the album release, El Perro Del Mar will be supporting Peter Bjorn and John on their North American tour in November as well as playing a couple of headlining shows of her own. We have a free MP3 download from the upcoming release at:

CD SPOTLIGHT: A Place To Bury Strangers are the closest thing to a "cyberpunk" band you're likely to find nowadays, and I write that realizing that cyberpunk is a genre that saw its heyday in the mid '80s. Indeed, APtBS seem to capture that period in its entirety, taking everything from New Wave to Punk to early Industrial, encapsulating it within a wall of static -- the "dead channel" sound here provided by lead singer Oliver Ackermann's custom-made effects pedals -- and throwing it against a wall of sound to see what sticks. As with most things that stick when thrown to walls (I will leave the specifics to your imagination), the stickiness is much reduced when you try to pick away at the edges to find out why it's so sticky. ONLINEROCK PODCAST: Check out our bimonthly podcast, hosted by Andrew McNair. Our October 1st segment features The Raveonettes, Mission of Burma and The Shaky Hands. FEATURED ARTIST PROFILE: Musically The Drones do not fit easily into conventional rock music categories. While some of their material is based on conventional rock sounds and song structures, they also venture into the noisy, atonal, blues-based music that Tom Waits brought to a wider audience. The Drones also explore the music of the Australia bush made popular in Australia by Weddings Parties Anything. You can find out more about the bands and download a free track at:
