:confused

I enjoyed Waylons Jennings guitar style, specifically his sound. I have asked employees at guitar shops since I was a kid in various states and they all claim it was his amplifier and he adjusted the depth, speed, and reverb controls. I'm sure this is partially correct, but I disproved this theory by my experience with my amp with about 20 knobs that includes those controls. There is something missing. I suppose if I was more agressive, I would have found out sooner.

Recently, my grandson has shown and interest to learn to play the guitar and he likes the waylon sound too. So, I bought him a guitar and am teaching him. I think it would thrill him to death, and certainly myself, if I taught him to play so he can hear himself sound like waylon.

I need to know what electronic device Waylon used to provide this effect.
Last weekend, I was told at a different guitar shop that he used a Phaser. I tested it out at the shop and it sounded awfully close, but not there yet, but I bought it anyway. Its an X-series Stereo Phaser by Digitech. The Phaser does provide a similiar effect but not quite the same, plus there are several of these Phasers on the market at various prices. Somone has to know, its a matter of finding the right person. Unfortunately, finding the right person takes some time. Please advise.

Appreciate your assistance

If your talking about the sound he had in the 70's, I'm not positive, but I think the Maestro phase shifter was popular then. Could it have been that one?

waylon used a vintage boss phase shifter to achieve his amazing tone. this comes from the man himself, I read his book 3 times!
listen to his early (pre- ramblin man ) work, and you won't hear the phaser.

i would think that the scruggs tuner on his guitar accounted for part of it
