Greetings,
We're happy to announce a new monthly interview column by Nikki O'Neill called One-on-One. Each month we'll provide an interview with a musician or industry luminary that will hopefully lend insight into this ever-changing business that we are all involved in.
Nikki is a singer, songwriter and guitar player in Los Angeles. She's the front person for the Nikki O'Neill Band, an original rock and soul outfit. Nikki is also the founder of Women's School of Rock, teaching guitar, bass and songwriting. Her teaching brought her to Sweden as a guest instructor at an all-female rock college, and she taught the only university-level class in the U.S. on women's contemporary rock and blues guitar at The New School in New York City.
This month Nikki talks with drummer/author/teacher Bobby Borg about the new and revamped edition of his book "The Musician's Handbook." Borg was part of the major label rock group Beggars Thieves (1991-Atlantic Records), Warrant (1996/1997-BMG/CMC Records), and his own group, Left For Dead (1997- Alpha Music). He currently resides in Los Angeles, California where he regularly speaks on panels at UCLA, The California Lawyers For The Arts at Pepperdine University, Taxi, and several other major organizations. BAND NAME: Natasha Borzilova
DESCRIPTION: "CHEAP ESCAPE" is the long awaited first solo project by Natasha Borzilova, former lead singer & acoustic guitarist of the Grammy nominated band Bering Strait from Obninsk, Russia. The band was formed in Russia as a group of classically trained child prodigies and the public became familiar with them when 60 Minutes did a feature piece on them that aired three times. Borzilova has written all eleven tunes here & her music takes on a personal tone with thought provoking metaphors & truly unique melodies influenced by years of classical and jazz training as a guitarist & vocalist. With a natural gravitation toward nuance in her lyrics, one would be hard pressed to believe English is not her first language. "Cheap Escape" is a stylistic hybrid, a fusion of diverse musical influences, an intensely personal journey laced with raw emotions & delivered with such sincerity, passion and sometimes heartbreaking vulnerability that the listener can't help but to be drawn in. Each musical story is like a glimpse into a young woman's life and Borzilova's ability to create intensity without seeming melodramatic, and to write sophisticated songs while being completely accessible, makes her perspective truly engaging in this first solo effort.

http://www.onlinerock.com/announceit FREE MP3 DOWNLOAD - Lucky, the title of Nada Surf's fifth album, is at once literal and ironic. Like the songs that singer-guitarist Matthew Caws, bassist Daniel Lorca and drummer Ira Elliot crafted for their previous two albums, let go (2003) and the weight is a gift (2005), lucky is filled with images of restlessness, longing and the elusiveness of love. Yet the band counterbalances the lyrical bitter sweetness with musical buoyancy. Download "See These Bones" along with other music at:
