About Cork
Cork is a wood product and as such needs special treatment.
Your cork will last longer, remain supple and will not peel, chip or disintegrate if treated properly. Traditional "cork
grease" is a petroleum based product that clogs the pores, fine structure and over time reduces the corks ability to absorb
moisture, compress and rebound, ultimately leads to disintegration of the cork itself and leads to loosening the glue holding
the cork on the tenon.
The Idea behind the product
The idea for the product came during a visit to Italy
and Emperor Hadrian's Villa outside Rome. Clay jars containing olive oil were found in perfect condition - including their
contents - after 1500 years. The jars were sealed with native corks which appeared to be in wonderful condition, covered
with bees wax and pine resin.
How does it work?
We all know that cork needs to maintain a certain moisture
content to remain soft and supple from the wine industry where bottles are stored upright and the cork becomes brittle and
cracks when you insert a corkscrew. In order to make the product fulfill it's job of smoothly lubricating the cork we were
fortunate to get some great advice from an old Asian herbalist that suggested we use a special extract of the Slippery Elm
Tree Bark. It worked so well that we call this additional ingredient - Nature's Teflon(TM). With Nature's Teflon(TM) the
product is an ideal cork treatment which is slippery but not greasy, sticky, or smelly and is kind to cork.
