Waves Native Power Pack (NPP) and GTR3 both pack an amazing amount of live sound processing power, and interface seamlessly with Waves MultiRack. Native Power Pack includes ten of Waves’ tried-and-true bread-and-butter plugins, including Q10 equalizer, C1 and Renaissance Axx compressors, TrueVerb reverb, SuperTap delay, L1 limiter, and more. GTR3 is a collection of 32 virtual amps, 29 modeled cabs, and 26 stomps, which work great as creative effects on all instruments. Together with Waves MultiRack, these two bundles provide everything you need to jump into the world of live digital sound, at an extremely affordable price.

Direct from the Desk
Back in the old analog days, one of the cool things to do was to hook up guitar stomp pedals to the sound board. Here’s why: Unlike rack mount units (which are relatively expensive, have lots of parameters, and deliver consistent, clear sound), guitar pedals generally don’t cost a whole lot and have simple controls, so it’s easy to get straight to the sound. And perhaps most importantly, since pedals generate noise and hum, and it’s almost impossible to dial in exactly the same sound time after time, they add plenty of character. So, they were often used not only for guitars, but vocals, horns, strings, whatever. Waves GTR3 gives live digital sound guys a chance to unleash some of that same old school creativity.

Production Notes These are a few choice live sound settings that use Native Power Pack plugins:

Renaissance Axx is an extremely versatile compressor that adds attitude and really can “do it all.” Try these settings:

For tight and steady with room-to-breathe Vocals
• Threshold: -6
• Attack: 7
• Gain: -1

For In-your-face, take-no-prisoners Guitars
• Threshold: -9
• Attack: 7
• Gain: -1

For punchy drums
• Threshold: -9
• Attack: 4
• Gain: -1

Put the L1 Ultramaximizer on your Master Outs to pump up your mix and get it loud and clear, without clipping, with these settings:
• Threshold: -9
• Out: -1

Here are some “quick and dirty” settings for GTR Stomps that sound great live:

To get a cool telephone effect on your vocals, fire up the Buzz stomp:
• Buzz: 0
• Tone: 100
• Volume: 40

To brighten up acoustic guitars and give them some depth and character, use the Chorus stomp:
• Depth: 10
• Rate: 0.75

When the bass solo is inevitable, give it some extra meat using the Bass Pitcher stomp:
• Min pitch: -12
• Max pitch: +12
• Mix: Start at 0, bring it to about 50 to add dry source
• Pitch slider: All the way to the left
