Kate White is an up and coming Portland singer/songwriter. She plays an acoustic 12 string guitar with flair. Her strong, sultry voice will leave you vibrating. Kates fisrt CD has just been released. She has not yet been signed to a label but we don't think it will be long! She's fairly new on the scene and the right people just haven't had the pleasure of hearing her yet.

Kate White is a Chicago born Portlander. Born in the upheaval of the sixties, her family moved to Oregon in the late seventies. She considers herself a northwesterner. Kate says “ I like the NW. Everything you will ever need you can find here in our little corner. Why live anywhere else? I like the way it looks and feels. I like the people. I like that I can drive two hours in any direction and find myself in a completely different world. Ocean, desert, mountains, farmland, backcountry.....you name it, we’ve got it. “

When asked, Kate says she is inspired by a number of different artists including Joan Baez, Janis Joplin, David Wilcox, Koko Taylor and Helen Reddy. “ Helen got me started singing for the love of it around the age of 8 or so and Joan got me started on the guitar. I really only play so that I have something to sing to though.”

It’s hard to classify Kate’s music. There are clearly folk influences as well as blues and rock. Perhaps the most encompassing statement would be to say sensuous acoustic R&B is Kate’s style. Her voice is strong and sultry. She could sing anything from country to opera. Regardless of your preferred genre, you will find something you like on Kate’s CD. “ I’ll sing anything, “ Kate says, “It’s all about feeling the music. If I can feel it, I can sing it.”
