If you know me then you'll know that I credit Todd Rundgren with my life-long appreciation of music. I was sixteen and had already seen a few concerts. However, the night I saw him play with Utopia influenced me more than any other. Some thirty years after that life-changing show I find myself on the phone talking to Todd Rundgren from his home in Hawaii, discussing his recent tour, his upcoming performances of "A Wizard, A True Star", and his guitar and recording set-up. From the surging opening track "Sharing" to the surprisingly soulful performances on "The Right," the album benefits from Barlow's tunefulness and his decision to record the record relatively quickly, with old friends and new. The record's considerable power also stems from the new talents on board, including producer Andrew Murdock and Lisa Germano. We have a free MP3 download of "Gravitate" from the upcoming release at:

CD SPOTLIGHT: Jesy Fortino, the sole member of Tiny Vipers, fortifies her expansive folk songs with silences and pauses. Her voice rings out across the blanks, her acoustic guitar's plucked half-chords glisten and blink, like something drifting into a milky fog bank. "Life on Earth" stretches and extends the whispered melodies of her debut disc, expanding like quarter-time, hungover mirror images of the quirky folk rock songs. Some technology observers think it could be as little as five years from now that the "convergence" of TV and movies and music and phones and the Internet is complete, ushering in an era of total connectivity and seamless sharing of media content across all platforms.
