A one-of-a-kind instrument sampled for your modern workstation.

The Best Service Early Pianoforte library offers the unique sampled sound of a historic pianoforte built in Augsburg by Johann Andreas Stein in 1793. Clearly showing influences of harpsichords of that time, the Stein pianoforte sports an uncommon piano sound: svelte, present, and filled with courtly elegance.

Stein pianofortes were a personal favorite of Mozart. In the collection of Andreas Beurmann, this Stein pianoforte is now available for your sampler, presented in its original tuning at 417Hz (presets at 440Hz tuning included).

To deliver the ultimate pianoforte experience in your studio, the producers captured the Stein pianoforte's sound with 32 velocity layers of each note for great dynamics, feel, and pure sound. Far beyond typical piano sampling—offering mostly just 4-5 velocity layers—this thoroughness addresses a common problem often associated with digitally sampled pianos: insufficient sample layers to capture an instrument's complex sound.

The engineers also recorded the release sounds of each key in 8 variations to complete the authentic experience of this rare pianoforte. The sample library contains more than 2500 single samples. For the challenging task of recording this pianoforte, the engineers employed vintage Neumann TLM-170 microphones in conjunction with Crane Song Flamingo preamps and Universal Audio 2192 digital converters. For maximum sound quality, the Stein Pianoforte was recorded in 192KHz/24-bits, downsampled to the resolution of your choice.

In addition to the samples, the Early Pianoforte digital sample library contains an essay in German from Professor Andreas E. Beurmann, explaining both the historic and musical background of the Stein pianoforte.
