Over 130 GB's and 100s' of high-quality virtual instruments for KOMPAKT/KONTAKT users.

The Complete Composers Collection - Play Edition, includes 7 of EastWest/Quantum Leap's most critically acclaimed virtual instruments for professional composers in one great collection at an amazing price break. Made to work with Native Instruments' KOMPAKT/KONTAKT players, the software collection includes everything you need to create professional compositions for film, TV, games, and music. The 7 titles included are EastWest/Quantum Leap's collaborative efforts— Symphonic Orchestra Gold Edition, Pianos Gold Edition, Symphonic Choirs, and Goliath, as well as Quantum Leap's Stormdrum 2, Voices of Passion, and RA—all at an incredible savings.

EastWest/Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra Gold Edition
EastWest/Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra is known for the warmth and detail of the sounds it produces. With the incorporation of PLAY, users of the Gold Edition will experience the benefits of an even better sample engine immediately. With the typical orchestral composition encompassing a large amount of virtual instruments, EastWest's PLAY software will streamline the process by allowing many more virtual instruments to be loaded at one time than with previous systems. Gold Complete music software features 33GB worth of material, with 16-bit samples, each with one mic position and full articulations.

Beyond EastWest/Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra's phenomenal recording quality is its ability to breathe life into the virtual world, creating a real space and filling it with sound. In the past, this meant adding reverb and effects, further digitizing and degrading the overall quality of your music. Now, EastWest/Quantum Leap accomplish this through separately recording the natural hall ambiance after the instrument has stopped playing until the sound has actually ceased. The software triggers this "release trail" at the end of every note and adjusts the dynamics so that the samples blend seamlessly, truly placing the listener in the hall with the orchestra.

EastWest/Quantum Leap Pianos Gold Edition
This piano virtual instrument collection from Quantum Leap and EastWest is a highly detailed, 263GB collection of some of the world's finest grand pianos. Recorded in one of the "temples of sound," EASTWEST STUDIOS (more RIAA certified platinum and gold records awarded than any other recording studio) with 3 mic positions for each piano, it features over a half million dollars worth of pianos, including a Bechstein D-280 Concert Grand Piano - close mics engineered by Ken Scott (Elton John, Supertramp, Bowie), Steinway D Concert Grand Piano, Bösendorfer 290 Concert Grand Piano, and a Yamaha C7 Grand Piano.

Each of these pianos were sampled with three different mic positions allowing you to mix together any combination of mics, using the interface, for the ultimate in real-time tone and ambiance control. This feature enables users to customize the sound of each virtual piano to their own requirements.

EastWest/Quantum Leap Symphonic Choirs
The award-winning Symphonic Choirs virtual instrument software makes it possible to type words into your computer, in any language, and hear a world-class symphonic choir sing those words in any key(s) you play "live" on your keyboard controller. This PLAY Edition includes the 64-bit (with 32-bit compatibility) PLAY advanced sample engine with built-in network control (see below for more details). The choirs were recorded in the same concert hall, by the same team as the EastWest/Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra and this sample collection blends perfectly with EWQLSO.

To achieve the feel of a live concert hall performance, each instrument and section on EastWest's Symphonic Choirs was recorded with three mic positions: close, stage (conductor's position), and hall. By selecting different mic positions, you can mix these sounds together to create any kind of natural ambiance your project requires. Control all mic positions for the orchestra, choirs, pianos, and other instruments with multiple mic positions with the built-in mic mixer. Load, unload, adjust, pan, mute mic positions as you wish. This eliminates the need for artificial reverb and the first time it's been offered in a 24-bit choir virtual instrument.

WordBuilder
WordBuilder lets you type in words in English for the choir to sing. For added detail, you can use WordBuilder's internal phonetic language, VoTox. With VoTox you get complete control over each phoneme. Symphonic Choirs lets you adjust timing, volume, and crossfade to get just the sound you need. The Learn function adapts WordBuilder's timing to your playing to give you even greater control over crossfades and complex vocal pronunciation.

The Phrases pop-up menu includes 28 popular Latin phrases that you can load instantly. Many choirs sing in Latin so this can be a real time saver for those on a tight deadline. The phrases have been optimized for each choir. The Phrases menu is completely customizable so users can add their own phrases to the menu for quick and easy access.

WordBuilder's enhanced user interface is larger, making it easier to modify how the choirs perform your words. The look of the UI is much improved in the style of the PLAY Virtual Instrument interface as well.

Quantum Leap Goliath
Quantum Leap Goliath includes the entire 32GB of content from Future Music magazine's Virtual Instrument Of The Year—COLOSSUS, plus an additional 8GB of new content from the latest EASTWEST/Quantum Leap collections, including the Sound On Sound magazine 5-STAR-awarded EASTWEST/PMI Bösensendorfer 290 Piano.

COLOSSUS As the name implies, COLOSSUS is a massive, high-quality virtual instrument that covers all of the basic musical genres, the way a keyboard workstation attempts to, except COLOSSUS offers much higher quality instruments and dynamics. It provides you with a staggering 32GB of content and over 160 instruments to work with.

COLOSSUS is an indispensable tool you will reach for time and time again when nothing else works. It will become your Swiss army knife of composing, plus it's GM compatible! And you can expect the usual exceptional Quantum Leap quality in COLOSSUS. Even if you own some of these instruments, you will love this collection. A good example is the Fender Rhodes. Despite the fact the Rhodes has been sampled many times, COLOSSUS includes a unique vintage sounding Rhodes you won't find anywhere else. COLOSSUS includes 15GB of new sounds recorded at Ocean Way Studio B (24-bit), a new, 2GB piano recorded in Europe, and 15GB of instruments from the award-winning range of Quantum Leap and EASTWEST titles (EW/QL Symphonic Orchestra, EW Steinway B Piano, QL Stormdrum, QL Guitar and Bass, QL 56 Strat, QL Hardcore Bass, QL RA, QL Brass, QL Voices of the Apocalypse), all newly programmed with superior sound quality.

Programming is kept very simple, and programs that use the mod-wheel are labeled appropriately. All programs have CC11 asan additional volume control. Many programs use auto sample alternation for added realism.

For touring or studio musicians, COLOSSUS is an indispensable production tool that has incredible instruments of every type for song-writing, film scoring, multimedia production, in the studio, or on the stage.

EastWest/Quantum Leap Stormdrum 2
Quantum Leap Stormdrum 2 is over twice the size of the original Stormdrum, one of QL's most popular acoustic percussion-based virtual instruments ever, featuring over 12GB of different (except the included Metallica black drum kit from Ministry Of Rock) acoustic percussion instruments. The unique selection of drums and percussion samples included exceeds many other collections. As a sequel, it sets high standards that the producers are sure will exceed the expectations of anyone who owns Quantum Leap software.

Included are 100+ film score-oriented MIDI PERFORMANCES, each with dozens of variations, intros, and endings from bombastic to hypnotic. The PLAY software allows for millions of variations of each MIDI performance so you can create custom performances at any tempo without any loss of sound quality because the samples are not time-stretched, only the sequencer tempo is changed. Want to slow it down from 120 BPM to 50 BPM? Simply change the tempo of your sequence, the sounds will remain pristine. Want to change the tone to something more aggressive, or something more subtle? Simply change the dynamics and marvel as 24 velocity multi-sampled percussion creates a completely new sound. Want to tune or add effects or filters to specific drums? No problem. Want to mute specific sounds and play in your own parts? No problem. Sound replacement? No problem. Like the sound of a performance, but don't like the rhythm? Simply use the current multi to create your own rhythms.

Drawing from the secret collections of three percussionists, Stormdrum 2 features some of the most interesting multi-sampled percussion imaginable—all recorded with vintage Neumann microphones in the famous EASTWEST STUDIO 1 (formally United-Western). It gives these samples that unmistakable Hollywood sound-stage vibe and a sound far beyond any other commercial percussion collection.

The original Stormdrum provided composers with a sound only found previously in top Hollywood films. It has even made it's way into many Hollywood blockbusters. Part 2 takes the concept to a whole new level. Producer Nick Phoenix refers to Studio 1 at the new EASTWEST STUDIOS as one of the best-sounding percussion recording studios anywhere, very similar to the top Hollywood sound-stages, but with a more refined sound. The studio has one of the best mic collections in the world, and rare vintage recording equipment that is sonically superior to any he has used previously. Digital transfers were done through very expensive Meitner converters.

Phoenix got access to some fantastic percussion collections and purchased everything he could, even contacted Remo and had them build him the largest floor tom ever built (42" x 42" +legs). While the original Stormdrum had a cool patch called "Thunder Ensemble" produced by six musicians hitting large drums in unison in a warehouse, Stormdrum 2 has the "Earthquake Ensemble", which is eleven musicians hitting huge, large, and sometimes smaller drums in unison captured at EASTWEST studio 1.

There are many gems in Stormdrum 2 and lots of subtle beautiful sounds as well. Phoenix collected many small Tibetan bells over the years which were put together in one beautiful patch. Troels Follman contributed his hang-drum samples which are also very one of a kind. Other unique instruments are the Whale Drum, Giant Tongue Drum, and Octaplus 9 action toms. The sound design percussion is pretty special too, as is the Glitched Electronic Percussion. There is plenty of very detailed conventional percussion included also.

Generally there is a lot of velocity switching going on and some round robin (alternate) sample switching. The sounds are usually organized with the middle of the drum hits on the lowest keys, and as you move up the keys, the hits move to the outside of the drum. Use CC11 volume and CC12 pan inside your sequencer, because they work per MIDI channel, unlike CC7 and CC10 which control the entire instance of PLAY's volume and pan. The mod-wheel controls a fantastic filter which can give the sounds more life and sound design options.

The MIDI PERFORMANCES included in Quantum Leap Stormdrum 2 are in type 0 MIDI file format. This means that 16 tracks of MIDI data is compressed into a single MIDI file data stream. You can playback the data as is, or expand it onto 16 tracks using the expand/unpack function in your sequencer. Set up a template that allocates 16 tracks to PLAY, MIDI channel 1-16. Once expanded, you have access to every parameter of the sequence, as if you had created it yourself. Tempo, muting instruments, adding instruments, and parts, changing the tone using velocity and controllers, quantizing etc. are all possible. If you are not experienced with creating MIDI percussion performances, they might be educational too. The .ewi multi files that contain the 16 sound patches for each MIDI PERFORMANCE are also useful as templates to create your own MIDI PERFORMANCES.

You may want to add some reverb on top of the natural sound-stage ambiance, as is typically done in film scores. PLAY's convolution reverb is perfect for this. The delay is useful also. Use the stereo width control to widen the sound-stage, and channel sourcing to get a mono signal for exact placement in the stereo field. You'll find that the left and right channels often sound quite different, which is useful.

Quantum Leap Voices of Passion
Voices of Passion is a virtual instrument designed to use vocal samples of alto and soprano female singers from Wales, Syria, India, Bulgaria, and America to add an extra element to you mix. It includes ethereal, passionate, flowing, mysterious, wailing, and whispering vocals for film, TV, and game composers as well as songwriters, new age artists, and zen horticulturists. Note these voices aren't meant to replace a live singer in your studio, but rather enhance the musical atmosphere you've created.

Voices of Passion features 5 stunning female artists singing vowels, words, morphing vowels, effects, phrases, calls, whispers, and breath noises. This virtual instrument/sample library was created specifically for use in the film/TV/game genre as well as music with ambient or new age music. All the singers were recorded with a Telefunken Elam 251 and a RCA 44 ribbon mic for tonal variation.

The collection features true legato intervals (American and Wales only), and the Middle Eastern and Indian phrases are presented in a construction kit format allowing you to create very long, consistent performances. There's even a mod-wheel to control the entry point on ethnic phrases.

Quantum Leap RA
Quantum Leap RA - PLAY Edition from EastWest provides composers with access to a variety of rare and unique instruments from Africa, Europe, India, Australia, the Americas, Far East, Middle East, and even the Turkish Empires. You will find that the RA virtual instruments has an amazing sound quality and marvel at the articulation of each instrument which has a wide range that goes from controlled to expressive. All of the instruments, ensembles, and samples featured in the collection were sampled extensively as a means of preserving the true character and expression of each instrument. For the first time with the Quantum Leap RA - PLAY Edition, you will have more control over the sounds offered in the collection along with the ability to load even more virtual instruments than ever before.

According to Quantum Leap Producer Nick Phoenix, the key to authenticity of sound for ethnic instruments is expression. With the incorporation of the advanced PLAY sample engine and its built-in sensing technology that monitors your style and adjusts the software and sounds accordingly, you will experience a level of detail that will make your projects come to life with range and emotion.

EastWest Quantum Leap RA was born a few years ago, as a sample library called Rare Instruments. All of the sounds from Rare Instruments are included in RA, but this only represents approximately one-tenth of the content. The other ninety percent of RA was recorded at Ocean Way studios in Hollywood. Because of the size and complexity of the project, Phoenix brought in two talented producers, Pacemaker and Tony Austin to co-produce RA with him. These two producers have worked on some other Quantum Leap projects and had some great ideas for RA. The trio spent time hunting down the best ethnic artists on the West Coast. Los Angeles is so ethnically diverse and blessed with excellent institutions like Cal Arts, it is actually the ideal place to record a rare and ethnic collection.

You will find EastWest's RA software has amazing sound quality thanks to Ocean Way Studios' incredible collection of vintage mics and custom API console. RA was captured with a phase accurate 8-mic setup that gives a complete 3-dimensional image of the instrument. It is this type of sound that takes to artificial or sampled reverb extremely well. The sound is clear and broad. The mics used were Neumann U67 (U47s as alternates), Neuman M50, AKG C12, and Shoepps.

Another cool aspect of this virtual instrument is the fact that it includes recorded ethnic ensembles. This was done with African drums, bagpipes, gamelan, and a Middle Eastern string section. The sound of these ensembles cannot be realistically simulated by layering solo instruments.

While Quantum Leap RA was a very expensive project to make, it is well worth the cost in what it gives you. A lot of thought went into selecting instruments that would appeal to composers of all types, from dance music to film. You might want to put the Middle Eastern string section in your next pop tune, or the hardanger fiddle in a sweeping romantic score a la the "Lord of the Rings" soundtrack.

You can have a lot of fun with Quantum Leap RA Virtual Instrument. The possibilities are simply endless, especially when you mix the sounds of different cultures together. Load up the Middle Eastern string section, apply an Indian or Egyptian tuning from the micro-tuning presets, and play octaves. Make a really cool groove with the didgeridoo FX and the Vietnamese jaw harp. Take a classical filmscore piece and replace all of the instruments with their ethnic counterparts: strings with Middle Eastern string section, solo violin or cello with electric baritone violin, hardanger fiddle or erhu, french horn with alpenhorn, flute with dizi, oboe with duduk, percussion with taikos and African percussion, harp with kora, trombones with rag dung, etc. Or perhaps try the hurdy gurdy, hardanger fiddle, washburn guitar, mandolin, and the dizi to make an interesting folk ensemble or the gamelan ensemble with the ney flute, duduk, and esraj.

PLAY
PLAY isn't just a sampler. The PLAY system is a professional, fully integrated sample playback software solution for those with the most demanding production requirements. Its 64-bit support (available as a download for Mac users) allows you to load many more instruments and voices, limited only by your system RAM. 32-bit support is included also.

If you still need more power, PLAY's network control allows you to load instruments on other machines controlled from your host computer. That means no more trips back and forth between computers and no more KVM switching when loading projects. There's also no need to buy additional software.

The PLAY interface is designed to eliminate clutter, including only the controls needed for each individual virtual instrument. All the instruments are listed in one easy-to-use browser which displays all of your instruments. It includes a favorites section to group the instruments you use most. You can also preview your instrument of choice in an simplified column viewer. Load instruments into one instance to take advantage of your sequencer's instrument tracks, or into multiples if you so desire. The Interface automatically changes to display current instrument whatever you do.

As far as articulations, you can forget browsing through complicated patch names. Just pick the instrument and play, and turn on/off articulations as you wish. The Articulations list also serves as reference for all expressions within the instrument (no need to look up key-switches in charts). Save your favorite configuration for quick retrieval.

PLAY is full of many other helpful features too. It has a legato detection that senses legato and repetitive playing and responds accordingly. It allows you to manipulate stereo samples in very useful ways, like the Stereo Swap which lets you instantly swap the left and right channels (Mono from left, Mono from right, or Mono Sum allow for instant conversion from stereo to mono). Th playback engine was built from the ground up to create the most intuitive instruments possible. The powerful effects engine has a reverb section which includes multiple impulse responses from halls, and the famous EastWest Studios and live chambers (more RIAA certified Platinum and Gold records awarded than any other studio). It also gives you incredibly smoothest filters. The iLok security system that PLAY uses ensures you complete portability, allowing you take your plug-in anywhere you want for use on any computer, and to authorize and manage up to 100 per one key.

PLAY is natively supported in all major hosts on all major operating systems.
